SONS Radiate Series
Tait started making these alongside a big portrait Walker when he was just a few months old in our garage in Hollywood. The sun metaphor of wild, bright and warm. New life. They were a way to counter the obsessive methods of capturing the likeness of peoples faces in the portraits. Each changes through the use of mixed materials: a 70’s playboy scrap, gold leaf, found paper, sun bleached colored construction paper, spray paint, latex paint. Nothing is exact. The physical movements inform the brush strokes and give the pieces their energy. Finished with a heavy coat of gloss polyurethane.
